My laptop has a widescreen, so I usually prefer the default wider aspect ratio, as the alternative makes the recipe text practically unreadable. Screen resolution can also be tricky to make the game behave right, so experiment a little with the settings in the game. I like this because the game has an aspect ratio designed for a square shaped monitor. With a little tweaking, sometimes you can boot the game up, then plug in a secondary monitor, and switch your primary desktop, or mirror the desktop over. When you see the mouse on the loading screen, and everything behind it as black, it means it isn't able to fit game screen on your monitor(s). Unplug any secondary monitor you have, especially if you are on a laptop. Neat little game! Takes lots of learning though. I disabled some of my monitors and it worked.
